I’m looking for some alternative remedies (herbs, etc) for dealing with depression, any suggestions?
I’ve been battling with depression for years and had finally gotten up the guts to go to the doctor and ask for a prescription. well, my health insurance just ran out and now i can’t afford a prescription. I’m looking for a herbal or alternative approach for dealing with my symptoms. something that is more affordable for me. i’m just tired of feeling this way and would love to try something, anything at this point. i thank you all ahead of time. any and all suggestions are appreciated. or, if you know of any websites i could check out, i’d appreciate that as well.
thanks.
I can’t go to a dr. becasue i have no insurance and can’t afford the visit costs. thats why i’m looking for alternative options.

st john’s wort is typically used. i don’t know about others but i’m sure there are some. i’ve used STW before and it worked as well for me as the prescribed pills. i didn’t have long time depression so that might change your answer too. try thefinerpoint.com. it is the website of a good acupuncturist/herbalist and she could probably lead you in the right direction. good luck to you.
First thing, take a multi vitamin. Second, get outside and/or get some exercise everyday. Good nutrition and increase of endorphins from exercise will help you feel better.
There is also some research that show B vitamin and magnesium deficiencies may impact depression.
If I were in your situation, I would:
Take a multi vitamin, Omega-3, B complex (or stress B) and magnesium every day. Additionally, I would:
Get some time outside or exercise for an hour every day.
Eat the most healthful diet I possibly could.
Get protein and whole grains, eliminate sugars from the diet.
Call your local health department. Most areas have mental health agencies that work on a sliding scale. You may be able to get necessary meds through social services.
Best wishes for you.

There is no need for you not to be on medication. Here is a link to the union of pharmaceutical manufacturers free and reduced price medications programs:

By the way you may want to check and see if the med you were prescribed has a generic version. If it does there is a good chance that med would be available through Walmarts $4 prescription program.
Did you ask your doctor if they have free samples available to you? Pharmaceutical companies load doctors up with meds and many doctors will give you samples if you dont have insurance.
